Destiny is almost upon us, and if you just can’t wait to become a Guardian of the galaxy, Activision and Bungie have good news: if you’ve pre-ordered the digital version of the game for either Xbox One or PlayStation 4, you can now pre-load the game so that you’ll be ready to blast off at the stroke of midnight. Well, midnight if you’re on the west coast; those living on our eastern shores will have to wait until 3 a.m.
This is more good news for those who are opting for a digitally-downloaded Destiny, as earlier this week it was also revealed that digital copies for Xbox 360 or PS3 would be allowed to upgrade to the Xbox One or PS4, respectively, for free. Now if only we could do something to make today magically transform into September 9 …Destiny Limited Edition – Xbox One
A new promotion from Microsoft will offer prospective Xbox One owners a free game with the purchase of the next-gen console. Starting on Sunday, September 7, those that buy the system from a participating retailer in the U.S. will receive a free game of their choice, priced up to $60.
The offer is applicable to Xbox One bundles as well, so those buying in to Microsoft’s latest console can score two games with the Madden NFL 15 and Forza 5 bundles, for example, or opt to buy the console-plus-Kinect bundle instead. The free games must be disc-based as well, so digital-only games like Ubisoft’s Valiant Hearts are off the table. Microsoft’s Xbox One promotion runs through Saturday, September 13.
Mortal Kombat X arrives on April 14, 2015 for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows PC, Warner Bros. announced this morning. The publisher confirmed the launch date for NetherRealm Studios’ fighter applies worldwide.
Also, WB revealed four-armed charmer Goro is coming back to the series, making his first appearance as a playable character since 2006 entry Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. If you’ve absolutely Goro have him, he’s a “retail channel-wide” pre-order exclusive in North America, and across the pond he’s limited to “an exclusive UK retailer”Mortal Kombat X – PlayStation 4
Microsoft adopts a unique Destiny marketing campaign in Europe, advertising Bungie’s upcoming first-person shooter in the style of an exotic perfume at destinyfragrance.com.
The ad doesn’t hold up to scrutiny, though. Click through and you’ll see the following message: “Destiny is actually an epic new first-person shooter, available on Xbox. Thing is, we didn’t have permission to run adverts for the game. So we didn’t. Thanks for smelling that something was up. Now get the game and become a legend.”
Taking the statement at face value, Sony presumably has Destiny’s regional ad campaign on lock. Still, it’s a real shame to know that a Destiny-inspired fragrance isn’t in the works. We may never know what moon wizards smell like.
