The company added that the game’s impressive sales rate is the fastest that “any entertainment property, including video games and feature films,” has ever achieved.
“The [‘GTA V’] sales easily break the previous record set when Activision Blizzard Inc.’s ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ hit $1 billion in worldwide sales in 15 days in December,” the Wall Street Journal’s Ben Fox Rubin wrote of the game’s sales rate. “In comparison, the blockbuster 2009 movie ‘Avatar,’ the highest-grossing film ever, reached $1 billion in 17 days.”
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company has been blown away by the outstanding reception the game has received thus far.
“We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to Grand Theft Auto V,” Zelnick said in the release.
Copies of “GTA V,” which has been met with rave reviews, have been flying off the shelves since the game’s long-anticipated launch Tuesday. According to earlier reports, the game raked in $800 million in just one day.
“Gears of War is developed by Epic Games, and they’ve been our partners for a long time on Xbox 360. You should ask Epic Games about what they want to do,” Spencer explained.
“We haven’t announced anything yet about Gears of War, but we hope to bring it to Xbox One in some form. However, there’s nothing more I can tell you at this time,” he added.
A number of high profile members of the original Gears of War development team have left Epic Games, such as Chris Wynn, Cliff Bleszinski and Rod Fergusson.
The most recent Gears of War was developed by Bulletstorm studio People Can Fly.

Gears of War: Judgment is available now on Xbox 360.
Beloved character actor James Gandolfini, best known as Tony Soprano on HBO’s classic mafia series ‘The Sopranos,’ has passed away suddenly at the age of 51 after a heart attack.
HBO released a statement confirming Gandolfini’s passing and saying:
We’re all in shock and feeling immeasurable sadness at the loss of a beloved member of our family. He was special man, a great talent, but more importantly a gentle and loving person who treated everyone no matter their title or position with equal respect. He touched so many of us over the years with his humor, his warmth and his humility. Our hearts go out to his wife and children during this terrible time. He will be deeply missed by all of us.
In Gandolfini’s early screen work he was usually cast as a heavy, with his role in Tony Scott’s ‘True Romance’ being the most memorable. But, it wasn’t until his turn in 1995′s ‘Get Shorty’ — where he showed that his gruff exterior could hold a soft heart — that he showed he was better than just playing Thug #2 types. His supporting work was steady, but it was in 1999 that he became a legend.
At the time, HBO had been having more success with comedies than dramas, and some were worried that the premise (a mob boss who sees a psychiatrist) would be overshadowed by the same year’s ‘Analyze This,’ which featured Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal. But, it was the success of David Chase‘s ‘The Sopranos’ that ushered in the HBO we know today.
Over the 86 episodes of ‘The Sopranos,’ Gandolfini created one of the greatest characters in television history, and, as great as the writing was, it’s Gandolfini’s performance that made the character indelible. Actors often hope they get one great role, and if Gandolfini had done nothing else, this would be enough to ensure his legacy.
More recently, he appeared in three films this last fall with ‘Killing Them Softly,’ ‘Not Fade Away‘ (with David Chase directing) and ‘Zero Dark Thirty,’ while he also appeared this spring in ‘The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.’ The passing of James Gandolfini is a horrible shock, as he seemed to have many more great performances in him. He will be missed.
The National Security Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are gathering data directly from Apple and eight other tech companies in the United States. Code-named PRISM, the program collects data directly from the servers of companies including Apple, AOL, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, PalTalk, Skype, Yahoo, and YouTube. GCHQ, the British equivalent of the NSA, also appears to be obtaining this data. Data collected includes emails, phone records, chat transcripts, video calls, and more.
So far, Apple, Google, Facebook, and others deny direct participation in PRISM. The congressional leaders and President Obama have spoken to reassure the public that the program is targeted on foreign communications and is meant as a tool to fight terror. PRISM is an outgrowth of the domestic intelligence-gathering efforts of the Bush Administration; it started in 2007 and is reauthorized by Congress every three months.
There’s a lot that’s still unclear about PRISM and to how these companies are participating. This information just came to light yesterday, and there’s still much to sift through until we have a better picture. We’ll do our best to keep you updated as we learn more.
